Prague is a charming old spot, rich in history and heritage, saturated with monuments, great bars, diverse restaurants, friendly people… oh, and did we mention it’s not too tough on the eye either? Though its got a bit of a rep for being a destination for stag dos and the like, you’ll be surprised upon arrival at how ornate and beautiful this civilised city actually is (though if revelry and partying after sunset is your bag you can get plenty of that too!)
Prague is located on the River Vltava in the centre of the Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. The orgins of the city can be traced as far back as the early stone age but it's thought that the first tribe to settle here were Celtic and called the 'Boii'. Because of its riverside location, it became a popular stop off on the trade route between northern and southern parts of eastern Europe and this helped the city to prosper.
The city is divided into 15 districts which are called Praha. Praha 1 is the historic centre of the centre and has the most attractions. The city is more commonly divided into five different areas called the Castle District, the Lesser Town, the Old Town, the New Town and the Jewish Quarter.
Fast becoming one of the most popular cities in Europe, one of the best things about Prague is how easy it is to get around the city on foot. It’s pretty self-contained in that all the main sites are within walking distance of each other so you’ll be sure to see the best of the city. There’s a lot of romantic little streets and charming courtyards tucked just away from the beaten track, and you’ll only stumble upon them by taking to Prague on foot…
Another thing about the Czech capital is that it hasn’t been touched by War since the day it was built, so all that medieval architecture that gives the city such enchanting character and personality is the real deal… and this is something that stands out when you wander through the streets of Prague.
