If you fancy visiting some galleries during your trip to Prague, then the Czech National Gallery is just what you’re looking for. The great thing about this gallery is that its collections are housed in different locations across the city so you only have to visit the collections you want to see.
Housed in six locations wiithin the city, the largest collections can be found in the ‘Veletržní Palác’, or Trade Fair Palace. This museum has a good mix of ancient and of modern pieces. It’s permanent exhibtions of 19th, 20th and 21st century art will fascinate you.
There are six floors in the building – the best way to see what each floor holds is to catch a ride in the glass elevator.
Another building that is part of the National Gallery that you might like to see is Sternberg Palace. It houses art from ancient Greece and Rome, German and Austrian art from the 16th and 18th century, and on the second floor you’ll find Italian, French, Spanish and Dutch art.
Other locations of the National Gallery include St George's Convent (Mannerism and Baroque in Bohemia), St Agnes' Convent (Mediaeval Art in Bohemia and Central Europe), Kinský Palace (Collection of Prints and Drawings) and finally Zbraslav Chateau (Collection of Oriental Art).
