Tyn Church

Prague city is known as the city of spirals and Tyn Church is an example of one of many structures that supply’s the spirals that tower over the city. Theses spirals can be seen all over Prague.

It was the principal church of the Hussites in the 16th century and it also played a vital part in the reorganization in Bohemia.

You will find many gothic sculptures from the pre Hussite period in the church. One would think that the Tyn twin towers are identical, however it is said that one is more solid than the other. This is said to represents the man or the stronger side of the family.

A statue of the Madonna dating back to 1626 is situated in the Gothic gable between the two towers. Paintings of Karel Škréta executed around 1649 can be found at the baroque altarpiece and the tomb of the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe is also found here.

The main entrance to the church is from the old town square through a narrow passage in front of the façade.
